Support our Graduate Programmes
For over 25 years, we have run a Studentship and Bursary programme – partly through the generosity of the Jacobsen Foundation but partly drawing upon the Royal Institute’s own funds. The programme is open to all graduate students in philosophy studying in UK universities.
With the programme heavily oversubscribed, we could award grants to a mere 18% of our total applicants in 2024-25. In a context in which central government funding for graduate studies is under severe pressure, we would like to do so much more.
A second annual grant programme supports Graduate Conferences. These are designed to offer graduate students in philosophy the opportunity to present their work to an audience both of peers and established experts in the field, and to gain experience of conference organisation.
This grant has “enabled me to significantly reduce my work outside of philosophy and reinvest that time into my academic research. This has paid dividends, especially with the conditional acceptance of my paper in a major philosophy journal”. AMR
“My TRIP Bursary has helped sustain me through the most difficult time in my life……..the support from the Bursary helped me to absorb this crisis, knowing that I could realistically support myself as I recovered and worked as much as I was able”. JH
“Without the generous funding from the Royal Institute of Philosophy, I imagine that I would not be at the stage of my research that I am at now”. EA
If you have had the benefit of graduate study in philosophy, please consider a gift in support of one of our Graduate Programmes that will enable someone else to benefit in the same way.
