The Royal Institute of Philosophy exists to support real philosophy, for everyone. A big part of our work – with support from the Jacobsen Foundation – is to fund philosophical activity of all kinds, from educational programmes and events, to bursaries and studentships for postgraduate study.
What we fund
Our funding includes:

- Philosophy in schools – supporting schools and colleges across the UK
- School conferences – awards of up to £5,000
- Teaching Philosophy conferences – awards of up to £5,000
- Graduate conferences – awards of up to £5,000
- Studentships and bursaries – awards of up to £9,600 and £3,000
Our impact
Since I had run out of funding for my DPhil, it would have been extremely difficult for me to finish my degree without the funding I received from the Royal Institute of Philosophy…. I have been able to secure a fantastic post-doc position, and expect to hand in my finished DPhil thesis this summer – this would not have been possible without this funding which has had a massive positive impact on my career.

UEA has a very small Philosophy Department and we are very grateful that we have the Institute’s support to organise these public engagement events which otherwise wouldn’t be possible in the current climate of research funds scarcity.
