Jacobsen 25/26 Studentships and Bursaries Awarded

On behalf of The Jacobsen Foundation, TRIP has awarded 5 Studentships and 9 Bursaries for 2025/26.

The Royal Institute of Philosophy is pleased to be able to fund 5 studentships and 9 bursaries in 2025/6 thanks to the generosity of the Jacobsen Foundation.

The Institute received a huge number of applicants for this financial support, and the standard of the applications was extremely high.

Congratulations to all who have secured Jacobsen Studentships or bursaries. We wish them every success in their academic studies.

Reflecting the philosophical interests of Mr Jens Jacobsen, these studentships and bursary grants are to support those researching in certain fundamental parts of philosophy, including speculative metaphysics, critical metaphysics, the philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophical logic, philosophy of life, determinism, the nature of life, evolution, moral philosophy, and political and social philosophy — all broadly conceived.

See below for feedback from previous awardees about how the Jacobsen Studentship and Bursary Programme has positively impacted them:

“The biggest impact the grant made was the ability to wholly dedicate myself to my thesis…I now have lots of time for editing the thesis and applying for postdocs/fellowships/ teaching positions.” PhD Student, University of Glasgow

“The Jacobsen bursary afforded me time to apply for funding and invite scholars from all over the world to attend an international conference at the University of St Andrews.” PhD Student, St Andrews University

“It has proved a difficult year for me balancing unanticipated health needs in my family alongside studying and teaching commitments. Knowing that I have some financial resources to fall back on, and to use in a targeted manner to support my research has been a much-valued stress reliever.” PhD Student, Kings College London

“The Jacobsen Scholarship enabled me to significantly reduce my work outside of philosophy and reinvest that time into my academic research. As a result, I have received a conditional acceptance of my paper in a major philosophy journal” PhD Student, Southampton University
