In 2025, the Royal Institute of Philosophy will celebrate its first centenary and with your support we want to make it the first of many.  There are various ways in which you can support the Royal Institute’s work.  Rest assured we will use your gift to support the programme of your choice.

Funding for the future

In 1931, we were a fledgling institute trying to establish itself securely.  We asked for a donation of £1-10shillings – about £50 today, as the request says, to bring more opportunities for learning to those with “some familiarity with philosophical studies but also to awaken interest among those who have not already done so”.  Our members responded generously.  We have those same aspirations today.

Can you support our work?

Any support for the Royal Institute's work creates opportunities for us to - as our mission states - bringing questions across the whole breadth of philosophy to the public, and to empower them to address these questions for themselves.

Donation Opportunities

Support our Public Lecture Programme

Support our outstanding public lecture series, so they can continue to inspire and educate people of all ages. Donating on behalf of a special person – be it a gift, tribute or memorial – can be a wonderful way to celebrate their love of philosophy.

Support our School Programmes

Our education programmes and materials support school students and school teachers of philosophy, bringing philosophy teaching to schools who – like 99% of schools in England – cannot afford a dedicated philosophy teacher; funding conferences for philosophy teachers to exchange ideas; and providing resources – texts, online masterclasses and our second journal Think – to supplement official exam board offerings.

Support our Prison Programmes

In partnership with other organizations, the Royal Institute funds philosophy teaching in prisons: high security prisons, women’s prisons and young offenders’ institutions. Our work makes a difference to prisoners’ lives, but the programme is small and prisoners tell us they want more. Your support will ensure this programme can flourish and grow.

Support our Graduate Programmes

If you have enjoyed an education in philosophy, please consider a gift that will enable another to benefit in the same way. You can support our Studentship and Bursary programme, and/or our Graduate Conferences.
