Courses: Ideas in the Ancient World

The Bishopsgate Institute is running courses called ‘Ideas in the Ancient World’.  One is about China and India.  Here’s the blurb:

‘Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism are three of the most influential movements of thought, dominant in the Far East for thousands of years. The course will focus on the teachings of classical thinkers such as Confucius and Laozi and address how their ideas have helped shape today’s world.’

The other focuses on Greece and Rome.  Here are the details:

‘Is much of our intellectual tradition really ‘a series of footnotes to Plato’? What makes Socrates and Aristotle so important, even today? This course will examine how the great classical thinkers set the parameters for our appreciation of art and moral values and the way we think about sciences. ‘
