Earth Ethics

What does Rolston mean by 'Earth ethics'?
Last Friday's lecture was given by Holmes Rolston III, and his topic was 'The Future of Environmental Ethics'. He argued that what's needed is an Earth ethic. Kantians value the good will. Utilitarians value happiness or pleasure or the satisfaction of preferences or something of that sort. What is at the heart of Earth ethics? Well, the Earth, obviously, but, as James put it, what's the cash value of that proposition?
